Deadline is reporting that the CW network is close to wrapping up deal for a pilot order of a Green Arrow television series. Based on the DC Comic character, the series will be written by Green Lantern co-writers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim who will also be producing it. Joining them will also be Andrew Kreisberg who has worked previously on such shows as Fringe and Vampire Diaries. Though the character of Green Arrow comes comes from DC Comics, it is said this new series will feature all-new stories not seen in the comics. The pilot is expected to be directed by David Nutter.
Green Arrow was originally created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp back in 1941 and is a character that has had many comic book series and appeared on various DC Comic super hero teams like the Justice League over the years. The character also made a regular appearance on the Superman based CW television series Smallville where he was played by actor Justin Hartley which will apparently have no connection with this new series simply being titled "Arrow."
It's hard to say if this series will actually come to fruition since we seem to hear rumors of a new superhero show in the work every other month. Not to long ago NBC was supposed to do a new series based on Wonder Woman which was based on a character with a lot more notoriety than Green Arrow, and that ended up getting canned. We've also heard rumors of series based on Blue Beetle, Booster Gold and Deadman. Seems like every month some super hero is the flavor of the month and someone has big plans for and yet they never seem to actually materialize. Only time will tell if this one actually happens and we will be sure to keep you updated as additional news becomes available.
Let us know, which DC Comic character do you think is the most deserving of a live-action television series?
