"Avatar" Breaks It's Final Box Office Record

 This morning, Fox reported that James Cameron's sci fi thriller had topped the domestic box office record on Tuesday. The record had been held previously by Cameron's "Titanic" with a take of $600.8 million. "Titanic" is said to have sold more tickets than "Avatar", but the increase in movie ticket prices allowed "Avatar" to take the lead revenue-wise. "Gone With The Wind' holds the all-time record with the most tickets sold followed by "Star Wars". "Avatar" had already taken the records for foreign and worldwide box office takes weeks ago, and this week it was announced the movie was up for 9 Oscar nominations. "I have no idea where we go from here," Fox domestic distribution president Bruce Snyder said. "The only picture that has gotten this high was 'Titanic', but 'Avatar' is coming off of a $30 million weekend while 'Titanic' was ending its theatrical run at the same point in the cume."
