The Bourne Ultimatum DVD Captures 5.4 Million Units in Six Days
Reported by Jay Cochran - 04:16 PM 2007.12.17

Continuing the explosive growth of the blockbuster Bourne action thriller franchise, The Bourne Ultimatum DVD once again outperformed its predecessors, selling more than 5.4 million units since its December 11, 2007 release date. Despite the industry's measured start to the quarter, the third installment of the chart-busting espionage series chased down approximately $95 million in consumer spending in its first six days in stores, making the Bourne series the only motion-picture trilogy of 2007 to demonstrate a consistent upward trend in both box office and DVD sales.

"Film trilogies typically have their ups and downs as audience interest waxes and wanes," said Craig Kornblau, President, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Universal Pictures Digital Platforms. "The astonishing upward trend in both theatrical ticket sales and DVD sales is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Bourne franchise and marks a stellar opening to the holiday shopping season."

The series' second installment, The Bourne Supremacy, sold a total of five million DVD units in its first six days, compared to three million for The Bourne Identity in the same frame. The Bourne Ultimatum's $227 million in domestic ticket sales also eclipsed The Bourne Supremacy's $176 million box-office gross, which in turn topped the $122 million theatrical take of the first Bourne film.

In The Bourne Ultimatum, Matt Damon (The Departed) returns to his signature role as amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne with an all-star ensemble featuring David Strathairn (Fracture), Julia Stiles (The Omen), Scott Glenn (Freedom Writers) and Academy Award(R) nominees Joan Allen (The Upside of Anger) and Albert Finney (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead). Directed by Paul Greengrass (United Flight 93, The Bourne Supremacy), the film is a razor sharp, adrenaline-fueled spy thriller that traces the former secret agent's continuing search for his true identity as he evades the relentless government operatives who want him dead. The Bourne Ultimatum DVD includes an arsenal of bonus features, from an in-depth "making of" documentary that takes viewers on a whirlwind trip through Moscow, Paris, London, Tangier and New York City to exclusive filmmaker commentary and deleted scenes. The HD DVD features even more excitement with interactive features and challenges.
