New York To Use Major Video Game Consoles For Emergency Alerts

When I saw the warning alert in a specific part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I was quite confused. I live near the area they specified in the game, and it was storming rather hard that night, so I got spooked. I literally checked the local news station's website to ensure that the warning alert was in fact not real. Phew, the government didn't really take over my Xbox to deliver me a warning alert.
However, in New York State, this will soon become a reality. The New York Post reports that the government will be able to pause and run warnings "about imminent danger, severe weather or Amber alerts will appear on the screen, under a new notification system for Xbox [360], [Nintendo] Wii and [Sony] PlayStation [3] set to go live next year." Subscribing to these video game alerts will be voluntary, just as the state currently has for alerts through text messages on your cell phone and email. The state is working on a non-voluntary system, though, which will send a blast message across every media platform, including cell phones, emails, and video game systems. MORE Games NEWS
